Back 2 Black

Ever had a week or weekend where you feel your self go "back to black"? This post is inspired by Amy Winehouse's (Very much missed) "Back to Black" song and the emotion behind the lyrics and the shell one takes on after morphing into black. I was on style.com when I saw Versace's Fall 2012 Ready to Wear collection and I guess I just felt some type of way about it in comparison to my current feelings. Little did I know, I couldn't have picked a more perfect collection for symbolism. According to Style.com's review, "Donatella felt she could finally, as she put it, face her demons and take on the unrealized promise of her brother's last collection." As models went down the runway in dark studded leather pieces trimmed in chain mail and adorned with crucifixes, you can see the collection transform just as a black swan does.

The important thing to remember is that ugly ducklings do turn into beautiful swans and after night, comes day! :)

Pastel Parade

In the spirit of the holiday (Easter...duh), I wanted to post some of the amazing couture pieces of Alexis Mabille! Each piece is monochromatic and vibrant with large tissue paper roses for headpieces, inspired by a photograph of iconic model Lisa Fonssagrives on a beach where her face is suffused with pink from the sunlight coming through her umbrella. A picture of Christy Turlington by Patrick Demarchelier also provided a bit of inspiration for the awesome headpieces!

A few of my favorites from the collection are:

 Rose Gold

Hope this collection inspires all the grey scales to brighten up their wardrobes for the Summer and Spring! The Lisa Fonssagrieves photo (along with Carmen Jones) inspired me to wear my red pleated maxi skirt (photo to come). Stay tuned, I will be doing another post on the Alexis Mabille Ready To Wear Spring -Summer 2012 collection...it's pretty amazing!

Happy Easter!

"Really Super Beautiful"

So I'm always researching new music, new fashion trends and collections, and anything that inspires me. I decided that my findings needed to be a post that I call "Really Super Beautiful". I got this title from one of my favorite authors (Francesca Lia Block) and I love it because it absolutely captures the way I feel about the people, music or things I research. This week, I was inspired by........

"Your mind is like a prism, for God's light to shine through"
Miss Solange Knowles

I LOVE her Sandcastle Disco and I Decided songs! Every time I hear them I feel like I took a time machine back to the 1960s when Diana Ross & The Supremes & Martha & The Vandellas were up-coming! And the videos are really fun and adorned with extravagant dresses that mimic the sound. These songs show just how creative and unique she is but still very humble. Solange has written many songs for musicians, including her sister's Upgrade U and Get me Bodied, worked with several producers, is a fashion icon (with a retro feel), actress, DJ (Doo ri party as well as Miu Miu), and a loving mommy! She is a natural beauty and inspires me to embrace my individuality and push the envelope!

Love this Dress!

 Something I would try lol

Fire BOMB

 Patricia Field

Fire Bomb does not begin to describe the well-known stylist Patricia Field. With her fire engine red hair and "tell it like it is" personality, you can't miss her and her talent to style A-listers like Sarah Jessica Parker, Anne Hathaway, and Meryl Streep. I fell in love with Patricia when she was stylist for The Devil Wears Prada and even more after Sex and the City. After a few minutes of trying to Google more of her work, I came across her website http://www.patriciafield.com/ and discovered that not only does she have an online shop but a boutique in NYC ( E Houston and Bleeker St.). Currently, her shop holds the work of 8 designers that sell accessories, apparel, and beauty products. Here are a few of my favorite items from the site!

Teacup Dress by Spoiled NYC $168.00

Love this Asante Kente print party dress with the big multi-colored bangles.
Parachute Necklace $90.00
Nylon Quilted Backpack $86.00
    Such a cute retro bag!

Studded Leotard $450.00

The Sequin "B" Bodysuit $500.00

Could not resist the red sequin bodysuit...very old Hollywood glam.

Studded Booties $3,700.00 to $4300.00

Also couldn't resist these walking hazards!

All styles above can be found on the http://www.patriciafield.com/ website, be sure to check out the new collection of jewelry by Theodoros!

Until next post
